Nobody can doubt the criticality of this geography, especially for America’s defence. But there are long-standing agreements for a US presence on Greenland that provide all the permissions necessary. The US is being clumsy at best here, but that’s being generous.
The Macron/Starmer agreement has plenty to pick holes in, but it’s both a brave and necessary step to going some way to provide reassurance and guarantees to Ukraine, and a warning to Russia. But we should not under estimate the level of effort required for this to be credible.
