ACAS Launches 2017 Air Power Conference

21st March 2017

Assistant Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Richard Knighton, has launched the 2017 Air Power Conference that will be held in London on July 12-13.

The revamped conference will be run on behalf of the RAF by the Air Power Association (APA) for the first time, with support from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

The theme for the Conference, which will be held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in Savoy Place, London, will be 21st Century Partnerships and the event is expected to attract an audience of several hundred leading air force personnel from around the world, along with representatives from industry and academia.

AVM Knighton said: “This year’s Conference focuses on the evolving character of 21st Century Partnerships. The strategy of some major players on the global stage and the nature of alliances is changing rapidly, with Brexit, changes in US leadership and potential shifts in Europe in the next few months at the forefront of our minds.

“Our globalized world is characterized by the rapid flow of: ideas, data, people and capital. This fuels rapid technological innovation but it can also generate global instability. We want to investigate these factors and understand how they might influence our partnerships and how air forces will fight in the future.”

APA Chairman Mark Roberts added: “The APA is delighted to be organizing this prestigious Conference, particularly as this year’s event is a valuable prelude to the 2018 occasion that will play an important part in the wider RAF Centenary programme.”
