Plans are already being made for an enhanced Air Power Conference to mark the centenary of the RAF next year following a successful 2017 event in London.
The two day forum of discussion and debate was attended by some 350 people, including around 45 air force chiefs from around the world.
The Conference theme of 21st Century Partnerships saw a host of respected speakers from the military, Government, industry and academia provide wide ranging insights into topics including how air forces can better work together, how they can work more effectively with industry in the operational space and using air power for the international good.
Secretary of State for Defence Sir Michael Fallon used the Conference to make several announcements on issues including RAF fighter upgrades, joint operational issues and future make-up of the P-8 Poseidon force.
For the first time, this year’s Conference was delivered by the Air Power Association (APA) with the support of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).
APA President Air Marshal (Ret’d) Greg Bagwell commented: “This year’s Conference restored the event as a leading forum for discussing and debating the current and future direction of air power. The reaction to the two days was extremely positive and we will look to build upon this.”
Plans are already underway for an even bigger event in 2018 that will be one of the key elements in the programme to mark the centenary of the RAF. Next year’s Conference will be held in London on July 11-12.
Greg Bagwell added: “We are tremendously excited about next year’s event in the context of the overall centenary programme and plans are already underway to make the Conference an integral part of what will be a fantastic year to mark this milestone in RAF history.”
